Joyce S. Pickles joined the firm in 2016. Her practice primarily focuses on professional liability defense, providing representation for various insureds under professional liability policies such as lawyers, medical professionals, insurance brokers and more. She has also defended EPLI claims during her tenure at the firm.
Joyce began her practice in first-party property defense in Tampa, Florida, investigating sinkhole claims for Florida’s largest insurer. After a year of practice she moved back to her home state of Pennsylvania where she began exclusively practicing nursing home defense for several years. Her practice over the years has had her representing both carriers and insureds on the defense side. She specializes in coverage matters in both the first- and third-party liability context, but has also represented insureds in trucking, premises liability and auto litigation. Joyce has represented carriers for coverage litigation matters involving issues of bad faith, depreciation, mortgagees, carrier contribution, puffbacks, water losses, fires, dram shop, business interruption, reasonable and necessary repair costs, reservation of rights, interpleader and intervenor. She has conducted coverage investigations and assisted carriers in resolving cases in order to avoid litigation.
Before becoming a lawyer, Joyce worked as a reporter for the Greensburg Tribune-Review.
Prior to joining Rebar Kelly, Joyce worked at three insurance law firms that each had a national and international focus. She represented both insureds and carriers on the defense side, with a primary focus on first- and third-party coverage.
The Florida State University College of Law, J.D. 2007; Indiana University of Pennsylvania, magna cum laude, B.A. in Journalism.
Joyce was the Vice President of the Mock Trial Team at FSU Law and a law clerk at the Florida Bar Association working on the Florida Bar Journal and the Florida Bar News.
